Where does the name "Alfrea" come from?

Alfrea is made up of two words, area and alfresco. The definition of alfresco is "in the open air.” The combination of the two is an area in open air which relates to one of our goals of finding land for people to grow food.

How do I manage my Alfrea account?

Once you are logged in, use the drop-down menu under your name to click on “Manage listings” and manage the details of your listings. Or click on “Settings” to manage the details of your profile, account, notifications, payments and membership.

How do I license land?

A license is not a lease, but a mere privilege to enter upon the designated land for a specific purpose, for a defined time and at a set price.

To license land, join Alfrea. Once you are logged in, click on “Land” at the top of the homepage and search for land that fits your needs. Once you find it, pick dates for when you would like to license the land and click the “License” button. This will send a request to the landowner who will then get back to you with the details of the transaction.

Can I post that I want a few acres of land?

Yes, we encourage our user community to engage in postings that are searching for land, services or food.

How do I hire services?

To hire services, join Alfrea. When you are logged in, click on “Services” at the top of the homepage and search for the right service provider for you. Once you are ready to hire, click the “Hire!” button. This will send a request to the provider who will then get back to you to discuss your needs.

How do I find local food?

To find local food near you, join Alfrea. When you are logged in, click on “Food” at the top of the homepage and search the food listings. Click on the food you want to purchase, pay for it and pick it up at your convenience.

Remember: As an Alfrea policy you must do all transactions through the Alfrea portal. All messages are screened to ensure no personal information is passed until a payment has been made.

How do I get my local food?

In the Alfrea Sharing Community you have options. You may elect to pick up food at a designated area, at the provider location, or you may find shipping available with additional costs.

Can I choose my own hours for food pickup?

Yes, hours of pickup for food are agreed upon by the buyer and the seller. If you are purchasing through your employer's or apartment community’s program there are established times for pickup.

How do I post land, services or food?

You can post to the Alfrea Sharing Community with an individual or business membership.

 

  1. Join Alfrea
    Sign up for an individual or business membership to post your land, services or food. You can cancel at any time. Your membership fee will be charged to your credit card. Your customers’ payments to you will be deposited into a bank account you designate during the sign-up process. Please identify this account and have the account number and routing number available, along with your credit card information, before you start the membership process.

  1. Post your land, services or food
    Once you are logged in, click the orange “Post listing” button at the top of the homepage. You decide the amount to charge and include that price in your posting along with a photo, profile information about you and details about your product or service. Customers will be able to connect with you through the Alfrea website and choose your product.

 

What are my transaction limits?

There is no transaction limit on Alfrea. The only limits may be from your credit card that it used.

How many listings can I post on Alfrea?

If you are an individual user you can have up to 25 listings at any given time. If you are a business user you can have up to 500 listings at any given time.  If you think you received a listing limit message in error, please contact us at support@alfrea.desk-mail with the subject “Listing Limit.”  Please provide your name and e-mail so that we can look into your problem.

What is your posting policy? What can't I post?

Alfrea supports the good food standards as defined by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, and products in the Alfrea Farmers’ Market are selected to meet these standards. We encourage all members to support the spirit of these guidelines.

Produced in a manner that is environmentally sustainable.

Fair

No one along the food chain is exploited in its creation.

Affordable

All people have access to it.

We ask also that you only post locally-grown food, land that belongs to you and services you provide yourself. You cannot rent out land that you do not own. You cannot sell food you have not grown yourself, or services you do not provide yourself. Please don’t post anything illegal or offensive. The Alfrea team reads and edits listings, and Alfrea reserves the right to remove posts it deems unacceptable, for whatever reason. We do not offer refunds if posts are removed due to a violation of posting policy.

Can I post my small yard for land?

Yes, any size piece of land is acceptable to post.

I don’t have land. Can I rent out the containers on my porch, or the back of my truck?

You can rent out anything in which someone can plant and grow a viable garden. Be creative! We love to see new things pop up for rent on Alfrea. If it belongs to you, you can rent it out.

Can I set my own pricing?

Land and service providers and food sellers are permitted to establish their own pricing.

Can I post a minimum order amount?

Alfrea has not established a minimum amount per sale, but a seller has the option to do so.

Can I ship?

Yes. But keep in mind if you desire to ship products you must agree with your buyer who will pay for shipping and either the seller absorbs the cost or charges the buyer.

Can I advertise a basket of goods?

Yes. You can create any combination of goods be it a basket or box of items with a price. (An option could be basket of salad fixings, or for Ratatouille - eggplant, tomatoes, peppers, onions.)

Can I sell my organic dog biscuits?

Absolutely, we offer items such as jams, jellies, pickles and dogs are family.

Can I advertise which farmers markets I attend and my schedule?

No, unfortunately. But you can arrange for your online buyer to pick up at a farmers’ market.

Membership

When will I be billed for the month?

Note: it is always free to make purchases on Alfrea. Anyone posting a listing on Alfrea may have a membership fee.

You will be billed for your first month on the day you sign up, and on the same day every month thereafter. For example, if you sign up on June 17, you will be charged for the first month on June 17. In the following month, you will be billed July 17, August 17, and so on. We do not bill retroactively. If you have questions about your billing, please contact us a support@alfrea.desk-mail.com with the subject “Billing Question.” Please provide your name, email and a short description of the problem so that we can look into the issue further.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind right away?

If you change your mind within 48 hours of signing up, we will refund your membership.  Listings posted during those 48 hours will be removed.

Can I get a refund if no one rents my land, hires my services or buys my food?

No. We do not guarantee that someone will rent land, hire services or buy food.

How do I cancel my account?

We are sad to see you go! We hope you had a successful time growing and sharing with us.  To cancel your subscription, simply send an email to support@alfrea.desk-mail. Please write “Account Cancellation” in the subject line, and be sure to include your name and email address. We would love to know why you’re cancelling, so we can make Alfrea better! You will receive an email confirmation within 48 hours that your subscription was canceled.

When can I cancel?

Note: it is always free to make purchases on Alfrea. Anyone posting a listing on Alfrea may have a membership fee.

You can cancel your membership at any time.  We do not offer refunds, so if you cancel in the middle of the month, you will be charged for the entire month. Once you are downgraded to a free user, all your listings will be deactivated.
